The Daily Circuit: Mubadala bets on private credit + ADNOC’s LNG platform
In today’s Daily Circuit, we’re reporting on ADNOC’s new LNG marketing and trading platform, maritime trade between Iran and Qatar resuming after a five-month cutoff caused by the war, Saudi investors launching a private equity fund focused on healthcare, logistics and data centers, and thousands of gamers arriving in Paris for Saudi Arabia’s Esports World Cup. But first, Mubadala makes structural changes aimed at attracting outside investment.
Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala sovereign wealth fund is handing management of a $25 billion private credit portfolio to its asset management arm, Mubadala Capital, in a move that will let the business raise money from outside investors for the first time.
Mubadala is also committing another $4.65 billion to help the platform grow, betting that more pension funds, insurers and other institutional investors will seek private lenders as traditional banks pull back from corporate lending, Bloomberg reports.
The strategy reflects the rapid growth of private credit, in which investment firms make loans directly to companies rather than relying on banks. Mubadala Capital CEO Hani Barhoush told the news agency that the move opens the firm’s lending platform to outside investors while the sovereign fund retains ownership of the $25 billion portfolio.
Private credit has grown into a $1.8 trillion market, attracting firms including Blackstone, Apollo Global Management, Ares Management and Brookfield Asset Management. As part of the overhaul, Mubadala CEO Khaldoon Al Mubarak will become chairman of Mubadala Capital, which has grown from an in-house investment unit into one of the Middle East’s largest alternative asset managers.
The business, which invests in direct lending, infrastructure, real estate debt and other credit strategies, will be led by Omar Eraiqat as president and chief investment officer for Credit and Solutions, alongside Fabrizio Bocciardi as head of credit. More than 25 employees have transferred to Mubadala Capital as part of the restructuring.

The Daily Circuit: Gulf poised for IPO rebound + Kuwait pipeline stake
In today’s Daily Circuit, we’re reporting on the global investment firms bidding for a $7 billion stake in Kuwait Petroleum Corporation’s oil pipeline network, Abu Dhabi’s BlueFive Capital co-leading a nearly $3 billion funding round for a Chinese AI video firm, Saudi Arabia’s crude oil exports rebounding to near pre-war levels, and Dubai-based OSN taking music streamer Anghami private. But first, bankers in the Gulf are preparing for an IPO rebound.
The Gulf IPO market is showing signs of reviving after a slowdown triggered by the Iran war, with companies across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar preparing listings for the second half of the year if market conditions improve.
Bankers at Citigroup and HSBC said they have strong pipelines of equity offerings, while Saudi Arabia continues to lead the region’s expected deal flow, Bloomberg reports.
Companies preparing for potential listings include NourNet, Master Works, ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Jubail, AlKhorayef Petroleum, Health Water Bottling Co., Ninja and Etihad Salam Telecom, the news agency said.
Rikaz, a developer which has projects across Saudi Arabia, including in Riyadh and Islam’s holy city of Mecca, is among those weighing up a future listing to fund its expansion across Saudi Arabia. “We believe that if and when the IPO is the right solution, we will do it,” CEO Khalid Al Gahtani told Arabian Gulf Business Insight.
A number of Saudi developers had originally planned to sell shares this year, but pressures from the Iran war have seen new listings fall to an eight-year low in the kingdom. IPOs across the Gulf have raised just over $1 billion so far this year, the weakest first-half performance since 2021.

PIPELINE BIDS
BlackRock, Brookfield, EIG Global Energy Partners, KKR and Apollo are among the global investment firms bidding for a roughly $7 billion stake in Kuwait Petroleum Corporation’s oil pipeline network. KPC has asked some bidders to recruit additional investors, allowing smaller funds with existing relationships with the state oil company to join consortium bids, Reuters reports. The sale is part of a broader effort by Gulf energy companies and sovereign investors to raise capital by monetizing infrastructure assets while attracting foreign investment. Reuters reports the proceeds will help support economic diversification and domestic investment plans beyond oil.
PURSE STRINGS
Bank lending in Saudi Arabia cooled in the first five months of 2026, as the cutbacks in project funding from the government and Public Investment Fund began to hit balance sheets. Credit growth fell from 5.4% to just 2.2% compared to the same period last year. Economists told Arabian Gulf Business Insight, this reflects a broader recalibration of the investment program, including fewer large construction awards. The value of new PIF-backed contracts fell sharply in 2025 and remains below previous peaks, though overall construction activity has held up. Demand is being supported by infrastructure needs tied to major projects such as the 2030 Expo and the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

The Daily Circuit: IHC’s aluminum venture with Adani + Franklin Templeton in Qatar
In today’s Daily Circuit, we’re reporting on Oman India Fertiliser’s oversubscribed $678 million IPO, Franklin Templeton getting regulatory approval to cement its presence in Qatar, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan expanding their Gulf advisory teams, and the UAE restoring oil exports to pre-war levels. But first, IHC and Adani Group team up to create an $11.5 billion aluminum business.
Abu Dhabi’s International Holding Co. is embarking on one of its largest overseas investments yet, joining India’s Adani Group in an $11.5 billion aluminum venture in eastern India.
IHC and Adani will each own 50% of the project. The Abu Dhabi-based conglomerate is a key component in the sprawling business empire overseen by UAE National Security Advisor Tahnoon bin Zayed. The Adani Group is led by Indian billionaire Gautam Adani.
The new joint venture in India will build an end-to-end aluminum business, processing raw ore into finished metal while generating its own power to supply the energy-intensive operation. It also extends the UAE’s push to bolster its aluminum industry as Emirates Global Aluminium expands production in the U.S., Europe and Africa.
The investment comes as India expands domestic aluminum production to meet growing demand from the construction, power, transportation and renewable energy industries while reducing imports of higher-value metal products.
The project is expected to create 53,500 jobs in the eastern Indian state of Odisha, which accounts for more than half of the country’s aluminum production, and marks Adani Group’s entry into aluminum manufacturing after building one of the world’s largest copper smelters in the western state of Gujarat.

BACK IN BUSINESS
The UAE has restored oil exports to pre-war levels, raising shipments to more than 3.9 million barrels a day by combining flows through its Fujairah pipeline with tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi Aramco, meanwhile, has sold at least 6 million barrels of crude on the spot market to buyers in South Korea, Japan and China, a rare move for the state oil giant, which typically sells almost all of its production under long-term contracts, Bloomberg reports. Gulf tankers have been crossing the Strait of Hormuz in convoys, fearing renewed Iranian attacks. Some vessels have been putting cargoes on so-called “dark transits,” switching off their transponders to make their ships harder to track, according to the news agency.

Oman India Fertiliser Co. attracted more than $12 billion in orders for its $678 million IPO, making it the Middle East’s largest share sale since the outbreak of the Iran conflict. The order book was about 18 times oversubscribed, reflecting strong investor appetite for Omani assets as the sultanate benefits from trade routes that bypass the Strait of Hormuz. MGX raises $49 billion for its new artificial intelligence fund
Abu Dhabi’s MGX has closed a $49 billion artificial intelligence fund, topping its $45 billion target and creating one of the largest AI investment vehicles ever assembled.
The fund drew institutional and private investors from the Middle East, North America, Asia and Europe, and has already begun deploying capital, Bloomberg reports.
Chaired by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, the UAE National Security Advisor, and backed by Mubadala and G42, MGX has invested in OpenAI and xAI, while teaming up with BlackRock and Microsoft on the massive Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Partnership project.
The new capital adds to MGX’s existing investments as the firm pursues a long-term goal of managing more than $100 billion in assets while raising outside institutional money alongside its Abu Dhabi sponsors.
The fundraising provides additional capital for investments in AI models, semiconductor infrastructure and data centers, where the cost of training advanced AI systems and building the computing infrastructure to support them requires investments of tens of billions of dollars.

ADNOC STEERING
Shell is nearing a $1 billion sale of its South African fuel station network to a unit of ADNOC, adding to a list of recent overseas deals by the Abu Dhabi energy giant, which has continued to deploy billions of dollars globally. If it goes through, the deal would give ADNOC Distribution about 600 retail outlets, or roughly 10% of Africa’s largest fuel market, as Shell continues its divestment of non-core assets, Bloomberg reports. Separately, ADNOC is proposing a new crude pricing formula that would tie key grades such as Upper Zakum, Das and Umm Lulu more closely to the Dubai benchmark rather than to Murban futures. The plan would set monthly official selling prices for certain crude grades at a differential to the Dubai benchmark for cargoes loading two months ahead, potentially supporting ADNOC’s effort to increase production and exports following the UAE’s exit from OPEC.

Zain to build Syria’s second mobile network in $1.5B deal
Kuwait’s Zain is betting more than $1.5 billion on Syria, agreeing to build and operate the country’s second mobile network in what would rank among the biggest foreign investments since Bashar al-Assad’s ouster.
The telecom company, formally known as Mobile Telecommunications Co., will pay $747 million for the license and invest about $800 million to upgrade Syria’s wireless infrastructure, including deploying 5G services, while the Syrian government will retain a 25% stake in the venture, Bloomberg reports.
The award gives President Ahmed al-Sharaa one of his biggest early foreign investments as he seeks to rebuild the country’s economy after the U.S. eased most sanctions.
The license became available after Johannesburg-based MTN Group exited Syria, while Qatar’s Ooredoo was also competing for the concession. Zain competes with Syriatel, a mostly government-owned company.
Zain, which trades on the Boursa Kuwait stock exchange, counts the Kuwait Investment Authority and Omantel among its largest shareholders.

The Daily Circuit: Shippers expect longer Hormuz delays + Qatar’s FIFA lab
In today’s Daily Circuit, we’re reporting on the helicopter crash at Aramco’s Ras Tanura refinery complex that killed 14 people aboard, Mubadala and other sovereign wealth funds shifting funds from the stock market to private equity and infrastructure investments, rents dropping in Dubai, and Qatar operating as a sports technology lab for FIFA. But first, shippers expect months of restricted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz as authorities work to clear underwater mines.
Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is likely to operate at less than half its normal capacity for months as naval mines and narrow navigation channels continue to restrict traffic, according to executives at some of the world’s biggest shipping companies.
The CEO of Japan’s NYK Line, Takaya Soga, said only two narrow transit routes are currently usable and warned shipping volumes are unlikely to return to pre-conflict levels anytime soon, while the International Maritime Organization estimates Iran may have laid about 80 naval mines in the waterway, the Financial Times reports.
A prolonged disruption would continue to complicate exports for Gulf energy producers including Saudi Aramco and ADNOC, while logistics operators such as AD Ports Group and DP World face slower vessel movements through one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes, even as alternative routes remain available for some cargoes.
Security risks have persisted since the June 17 U.S.-Iran agreement, with an Evergreen Marine container ship attacked after passing through the strait and a tanker reporting hull damage after being struck by an unidentified object, while Iran’s Revolutionary Guard requires ships to coordinate transits with its navy.
Although NYK, China’s COSCO Shipping and Italy’s Grimaldi have resumed some voyages, insurance company Allianz estimates more than 1,200 cargo ships carrying about $125 billion of goods were stranded during the disruption, and freight forwarder Kuehne+Nagel said there is no clear timetable for a full recovery.

The victims included 11 passengers and three crew members, all of them Saudi nationals. The accident occurred just days after Ras Tanura resumed crude exports for the first time in four months following disruptions during the Iran conflict.

The Daily Circuit: Aramco resumes exports + ADNOC Drilling’s AI rig
In today’s Daily Circuit, we’re reporting on ADNOC Drilling activating its new AI-powered rig, Masdar City’s Biosphere Labs, GEMS Education investing $30 million to open schools in India, and U.S. President Donald Trump getting ready for takeoff in the Boeing 747-8 he received as a gift from Qatar. But first, Gulf energy companies are cautiously getting ships into position to resume exports.
Saudi Aramco and QatarEnergy are moving oil and natural gas back onto world markets after weeks of war-related disruptions, testing whether the U.S.-Iran ceasefire can keep the Strait of Hormuz open.
Aramco resumed exports from its Ras Tanura terminal, Saudi Arabia’s largest oil port, with two supertankers loading crude while a third waited offshore, Reuters reports. Meanwhile, at least eight LNG carriers have gathered outside QatarEnergy’s Ras Laffan complex, the world’s largest liquefied natural gas export facility, with additional vessels heading toward the terminal, according to Bloomberg.
The push to restart exports comes despite lingering security concerns after an Evergreen Marine cargo ship was struck by an unknown object in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, prompting the British navy to suspend escort operations while shipping companies reassess the risks of using the waterway.
Each of the tankers at Ras Tanura can carry about 2 million barrels of crude, and the terminal exported more than 5 million barrels a day before the conflict. Aramco last loaded a China-bound cargo there on March 8 before shifting exports to the Red Sea port of Yanbu after shipping through Hormuz was disrupted.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio ended a three-day Gulf tour on Thursday, saying all six GCC countries support keeping the Strait of Hormuz free of tolls and restrictions on commercial shipping instituted by Iran.
